Squirrels and other animals cause power outages
The mayor of a Maryland town that has lost power very frequently in the last few months has announced a plan to hopefully rectify the problem. Neal Roop, the small town mayor, issued a statement from Potomac Edison First Energy Company rep David Kline who explained that the power outages are most definitely due to animals. Creatures such as squirrels and birds touch the power terminals and disrupt service. The company will be placing guards on each terminal to prevent the animals from being able to reach them.
There are numerous species of tree squirrels throughout the United States all of which are active year round. Squirrels cause problems by digging in yards and gardens, raiding bird feeders, and gnawing holes near gutters to invade homes. They can get into attics, walls, and ceilings, gnawing on wires and getting trapped in chimneys and flues. There are many actions you can take to prevent squirrels from causing issues, however, according to Maryland law, residents have to have a permit to trap and remove them.
